More than 1,200 third-grade students from 17 schools across York County will descend upon the Byrnes Health Education Center this week for the 36th annual Children’s Wellness Days event, sponsored and organized by the York Hospital Auxiliary.

The three-day interactive event teaches children how to live healthy lifestyles. This is the second year in which the Byrnes Health Education Center has hosted the free, annual fieldtrip for area students.

This event has so much to offer students, and we are proud to celebrate 36 years of helping our young people learn about what it means to live healthy lives and truly be healthy,” said Alyson Bucks, president, York Hospital Auxiliary. “That’s why our partnership with Byrnes Health Education Center makes so much sense. They’re experts in health and wellness and in making these topics fun for kids.”

This year’s event features six educational stations, including: nutrition, exercise, fire safety, character building and internet safety.

“Our common goal is to educate and empower our youth to be confident in making healthy choices,” said Anne Bahn, president and CEO, Byrnes Health Education Center. “This workshop partnership brings two likeminded organizations who have served the community for decades together to promote preventive health education.”

Children’s Wellness Days will run Tuesday through Thursday, with half-day sessions each morning and afternoon. The Byrnes Health Education Center is located at 515 South George St. in York.

Byrnes Center staff, York City police and fire departments and the Margaret E. Moul Home – a long-term care facility for adults with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis and other neuromuscular impairments – will be participating in the educational event.

The York Hospital Auxiliary sponsors and plans the annual Children’s Wellness Days event. The auxiliary has supported WellSpan York Hospital since 1895.
