Update #4: January 24, 2019 The construction of the temporary shelters for the affected families has been completed and the families moved in earlier this week. The shelters look very beautiful and the families are very happy and grateful for the support that has been given through the ministry of the Church and Compassion. No additional beneficiaries have been affected. The Church will continue to support the affected families with the purchase of uniforms and school supplies so the beneficiaries can continue with their studies.

Update #4: January 24, 2019

The construction of the temporary shelters for the affected families has been completed and the families moved in earlier this week. The shelters look very beautiful and the families are very happy and grateful for the support that has been given through the ministry of the Church and Compassion. No additional beneficiaries have been affected. The Church will continue to support the affected families with the purchase of uniforms and school supplies so the beneficiaries can continue with their studies. Praise God that everything is mostly returning to normal.

Update #3: January 17, 2019

The municipal council has supported two of the beneficiary families to replace the roofs of their homes. No additional beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Two of the affected families have received the materials to construct temporary shelters. The construction process has advanced a lot this past week with the placing of a roof to one shelter and the walls for the other shelter. Overall, the beneficiaries and families are recovering from the situation. Please pray for the beneficiaries and families as they recover from the damages.

Update #2: January 14, 2019

Two of the impacted families have returned to their homes because the damage was minimal and they have completed the cleaning of their houses. Two other the families are still staying with friends and relatives. Temporary shelters will be built for these families since their homes were destroyed. No additional beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Please pray for the safety of our beneficiaries in this area and for the families as they recover from the losses and damage.

Update #1: January 10, 2019

The mayor and some neighbors removed the rubble from the area destroyed by the fire. The whole place is being cleaned and the electric power company has changed the power poles. So far, one Child Development Center (CDC) and 10 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. The families are receiving support with clothes and food from the National Disaster Response Organization and neighbors. They are still staying with friends and relatives. Compassion Disaster Relief Funds have been used to purchase beds and stoves for the affected families. The CDC has provided food, water, medical care, medication, mattresses, sheets, clothes and shoes, as well as psychological care. Please pray for all the families as they recover from the damages.

Disaster Alert: January 9, 2018

A fire broke out in the Fernando Calderon neighborhood in Tegucigalpa on Saturday, January 5, 2019. The cause of the fire is not yet known but is being investigated. In total, 10 homes were destroyed; 5 of which belonged to Compassion beneficiaries and their families. No Child Development Centers (CDCs) were impacted. So far, one beneficiary has been reported as affected. Affected families are staying with friends and relatives. The CDC and local authorities are helping the families with mattresses, clothing, water, and food. Houses may be rebuilt by the local National Disaster Response Organization. Please pray for all affected families as they recover from the damages caused by the fire. Compassion Honduras will keep us updated as more information becomes available.
