Yale, Baylor create detailed atlas of cellular change in lungs with fibrosis
A research team from Yale and Baylor College of Medicine has completed the largest single-cell analysis to date of lungs affected by Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), revealing how cells change in response to the disease and identifying previously unknown cell types. The findings, published in the July 8 issue of Science Advances , deepen understanding of IPF and could improve treatment of it and other fibrotic lung diseases.

Yale study: Breast cancer found earlier in states with expanded Medicaid
In a new Yale Cancer Center (YCC) study, researchers have demonstrated that a higher percentage of women with breast cancer had their disease diagnosed at an early stage in states with expanded Medicaid coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). No such change was seen in states that didn’t expand their coverage. The findings were published today in JAMA Surgery .

Carriers expect critical illness and hospital indemnity to be the top voluntary growth products, finds Eastbridge Voluntary Product Trends Frontline Report
The top two most frequently offered products by over 90% of carriers surveyed are personal injury accident and critical illness. Short-term disability follows with almost 80% of carriers offering this coverage. Rounding out the top five are term life and hospital indemnity, offered by just over 60% of carriers. In addition, just under a third of carriers offer some type of discount or non-traditional product.

Yale IDs test to detect blood vessel injury, predict survival in COVID-19
Researchers at Yale have found that injury to endothelial cells — the cells lining blood vessels — may be a key driver of COVID-19 severity and death. The findings, published in the June 30 edition of The Lancet Haematology , may help to explain the mysterious blood clotting seen in some patients with COVID-19, a condition associated with the most severe cases and death. The discovery suggests that doctors could both test patients for endothelial cell injury, known as endotheliopathy, and mitigate it with drugs to improve patient outcomes.
