Several Democratic lawmakers overseeing national security programs want Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the acting director of national intelligence to take “immediate steps” to ensure their workers won’t lose their jobs, Stars and Stripes reported.
They are concerned that the administration’s directives to reduce the federal workforce are meant to “politicize and demoralize” workers, they said.
“The manner in which your departments and agencies have implemented these directives constitute a generational risk to the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Hegseth and the acting intelligence director.
It was signed by Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) They all hold leadership roles on committees handling defense and intelligence.
