WASHINGTON, D.C. — Equality California released the following statement from  Executive Director Tony Hoang in response to the U.S. Department of Education Investigation into CIF Policy Supporting Transgender Athletes.

“We strongly support the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and their long-standing policy allowing transgender students to compete in accordance with their gender identity. This policy aligns with California law and the fundamental principles of fairness and inclusion.

These protections have existed for years without issue and have allowed the small number of transgender athletes in California to play school sports alongside their teammates – just like everyone else.

This federal investigation is another politically motivated attack and part of a broader effort to weaponize the government against transgender youth. It is a deliberate attempt to stigmatize and exclude transgender students as part of a coordinated agenda to erase transgender people from public life.

Transgender students, like all students, deserve the opportunity to play the sports they love without fear of discrimination. We will continue to stand with transgender youth, their families, and CIF to defend policies that promote inclusion, equality, and the well-being of transgender people.”
