U.S. Diplomatic Leadership in Support of Women, Peace, and Security
For decades, American diplomats have supported women as leaders in efforts to prevent conflict, counter terrorism and violent extremism, and promote security around the world. In 2017, the United States became the first government in the world to enact comprehensive legislation on the role of women in peace and security, which the Department of State is committed to fully operationalizing through its Plan to Implement the U.S. Strategy on Women, Peace, and Security. The Department of State’s efforts include a range of initiatives:

Today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two consolidated cases
Trump v. Pennsylvania and Little Sisters of the Poor Saints Peter and Paul Home v. Pennsylvania—both challenging the Trump administration’s rules that would allow virtually any employer or university to declare itself exempt from the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) requirement that health plans cover birth control without out-of-pocket costs. If the Supreme Court allows the rules to go into effect, hundreds of thousands of people could lose their birth control coverage and workers with low wages or who face other barriers to care will be the most impacted.
