HIGHWAYS TO IMPROVE THE GREAT OUTDOORS

`

Deeply ingrained in our culture at Bureau Veritas is our Day of Caring program, which allows all Bureau Veritas employees to use one paid day per year to volunteer with a registered charity of their choice. With thousands of hours logged per year, we are proud of everyone who generously donates their time and talents to help advance a good cause within the communities across Canada in which we live and work.

This past May, our Atlantic team held an Adopt-a-Highway clean-up, in Nova Scotia. The Adopt-a-Highway clean-up encourages groups and organizations to adopt and care for a 5 km stretch of public highway. Several years ago, Bureau Veritas’ Bedford team jumped at the opportunity to adopt the entire road on which the Bureau Veritas lab is located (Bluewater Rd.), along with an additional several kms up to Kearney Lake.

Bureau Veritas (formerly Maxxam) had 8 staff members participate, and things quickly added up – with the team collecting 45 bags of garbage, and lots of miscellaneous items. The team was honoured to be joined by their municipal councilor Matt Whitman, who tweeted the following after a long day in the trenches together: “”

A true reflection of Bureau Veritas’ core value of caring in action, in protecting the environment and supporting local communities.

The clean-up initiatives were spearheaded by Bryon Angevine, a Senior Analyst from the laboratory operations team. “These clean-up projects are important to me to set a positive example,” says Bryon, an Environmental Scientist graduate from Acadia University, who found himself in a Bureau Veritas Chemistry lab eleven years ago and hasn’t left since. With roots entrenched in the beautiful Annapolis Valley he couldn’t help but develop from a young age a love for the outdoors and everything that is has to offer.

From hikes in the woods with man’s best friend to exploring new fishing holes that many would deem not worth the effort, he has always believed that outdoors is where we are meant to be. “I really enjoy experiencing new things with my young son Parker, and cannot wait to see what kind of adventures we get to have in the future,” says Bryon. Sharing these experience with Parker and his wife Ashley, Bryon cannot wait to start exploring with his new daughter due this summer.
