DOD will continue to support border security and mass deportation missions, which may mean the deployment of more service members, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters when he arrived at the Pentagon Monday for his first official day on the job.
“The Defense Department will support the defense of the territorial integrity of the United States of America at the southern border to include reservists, National Guard and active duty in compliance with the Constitution, with the laws of our land and the directives of the commander in chief,” he said, according to a transcript .
Hegseth was asked whether Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. CQ Brown and other members of the Joint Chiefs would keep their jobs.
“I’m standing with them right now,” Hegseth said. “Look forward to working with them.”
He also previewed upcoming changes to military training.
“Military training will be focused on the readiness of what our troops in the field need to deter our enemies,” he said. “More rapid fielding, more rapid opportunity to train as we fight will be something we want our units to do across the spectrum.”
