Eight inspectors general from federal agencies are suing the Trump administration for abruptly firing them from their watchdog positions. The fired IGs from DOD and the Department of Veterans Affairs are among the plaintiffs, Military.com reported.
“The purported firings violated unambiguous federal statutes – each enacted by bipartisan majorities in Congress and signed into law by the president – to protect inspectors general from precisely this sort of interference with the discharge of their critical, nonpartisan duties,” court documents filed Wednesday say.
The dismissed IGs say federal law requires a 30-day notice to Congress before firing an inspector general.
