When Maddy Wang isn't busy studying a double degree in Law/Science (currently in her fourth year of study), she's busy tending to the duties of Treasurer at the ANU Students Association.

We caught up with her to find out a little about what she likes and her goals for 2020.

Maddy thanks for your time. Firstly can we ask you, what was the last book you read and would you recommend it?

Last book I read was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I'm recording myself dictating it as a present for my little (eight-year-old) brother who's starting to get into the fantasy genre. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a child, so much that I tried renaming our old family cat from "Sparkles" to "Catspian".

What is your favourite dessert and why?

Asian Egg Tarts, I ate them all the time growing up in Guangzhou and they're a mix of delicious and nostalgic to me for that reason.

If you could invite a star to a party, who would you invite and why?

Sirius, or the Dog Star. It's the brightest star visible in the night sky so if I invited it, I wouldn't have to worry about lighting at all! As for actual people, probably Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (if we're allowed to revive dead stars) solely so I can show him how popular Sherlock Holmes still is today and he can weep.

What are you hoping to focus on in your role for 2020?

ANUSA is quite reliant now on the SSAF allocated by the university. Given that the university is moving to cap student numbers, it'll become harder for ANUSA to start new initiatives and properly commit to continuing initiatives. My primary focus will be trying to find alternate revenue streams. For this year it'll mostly be a lot of investigating and talking to stakeholders and seeing what we can do that is actually financially viable, but hopefully the 2021 Treasurer can carry the baton as well.
