MITS Welcomes New Staff Member

MITS’ new Project Coordinator, Amanda Noble.

The Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS, Inc.) is pleased to welcome Amanda Noble to its staff as Project Coordinator.

Amanda grew up on the New England coast and received her degree in Psychobiology from the University of New England. She worked as a Patrol Intern and an AmeriCorps Education Member at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island, GA, collecting data on nesting female loggerhead and leatherback sea turtles, teaching camps and school programs, designing craft guides for children’s programming and blogging. Amanda later went on to work at The Outdoor School at Camp Champions in Marble Falls, TX, where she taught outdoor science lessons to 5th grade students. She has also worked at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in Orange, TX, where she designed activities for special events, curated the nature center and led school field trips and outdoor summer camps. Most recently, Amanda worked for The Fairchild Challenge at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, FL, where she co-designed annual curriculum for environmental science outreach education competitions, provided website and social media content and helped with the technical pilot year for the Growing Beyond Earth project, a partnership with NASA that gave students the opportunity to test crops for growth in space.

As MITS’ full-time Project Coordinator, Amanda will be developing social media content, administering MITS’ Science By Connections website and working closely with the Education staff to assist with professional development programs and office support.

The Museum Institute for Teaching Science specializes in providing hands-on, minds-on, inquiry-based STEM professional development for formal and informal educators.  For more information, visit www.mits.org or call 617-328-1515.

What Teachers Are Saying

Today made me feel excited about teaching again. My curiosity was sparked and a sense of flexibility and adventure was there to help me learn so much.

I am exploring science in an entirely different way than the manner in which I was taught.

This class has certainly opened my eyes. I'm looking forward to really opening the eyes of my students and encouraging them to be curious, observe, and know that they can find the answers and be lifelong learners...This is by far the best course I've ever taken. I learned so much and I feel so much more confident teaching science to my students. Excellent!

From a teacher’s perspective, the opportunity for open inquiry was priceless. It inspired wonder, curiosity and increased the students’ investment in learning.
