NBC Sports Digital is rebranding its live streaming product from NBC Sports Live Extra to the NBC Sports app. In 2016, the NBC Sports app, along with NBCSports.com and NBCOlympics.com, will live stream more than 10,000 events, including 4,500 hours of coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics, all via TV Everywhere.

NBC Sports Digital has been live streaming some of the most high-profile events in sports for more than a decade, including the Summer and Winter Olympics, the Super Bowl, Sunday Night Football – primetime television’s No. 1 show – the Stanley Cup Final, the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the PGA TOUR, the Premier League, Notre Dame Football, the Triple Crown, and many more major events. The NBC Sports Live Extra brand was introduced in February 2012.

In addition to the NBC Sports app re-brand, which will take effect later this month, NBC Sports Digital is re-branding its premium cycling app from NBC Sports Tour de France Live to NBC Sports Gold. The re-branded app will provide live streaming coverage plus shoulder programming for the Tour de France and more than 15 major races during the cycling season.

"As digital consumption of live sports events continues to grow, NBC Sports Gold complements our linear and TV Everywhere offerings by making additional NBC Sports coverage available to cycling fans," said Rick Cordella, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital Media, NBC Sports Group.

Both the NBC Sports app and NBC Sports Gold are powered by Playmaker Media, NBC Sports Digital’s new technology service which provides end-to-end support for companies in need of best-in-class live streaming and VOD solutions. They are both available on desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs.

NBC Sports Digital, a division of NBC Sports Group, was the first to stream an Olympic event (2006), an NFL game (2008), and a Super Bowl (2012), among many other firsts. It hosts thousands of on-demand video clips, and will live stream more than 10,000 events this year that air across NBC, NBCSN, Golf Channel, Telemundo, NBCUniverso and six NBC Sports Regional Networks.

Featuring live coverage of all 21 stages of the Grand Tour races Tour de France and Vuelta a España, Monument Classics including Paris–Roubaix and Liége-Bastogne-Liége, and more than 10 additional races, NBC Sports Gold’s cycling package is available for purchase today for $29.99 by visiting NBCSportsGold.com. Pricing and information on additional packages will be announced at a later date.

NBC Sports Gold’s 2016-17 cycling package will debut with the 103rd Tour de France and culminate in June 2017 with the Tour de Suisse. Following the initial debut season, NBC Sport Gold’s cycling subscription will begin annually in June and run through May.

NBC Sports Group will present live and primetime coverage of each stage of the 103rd Tour de France, the world’s most prestigious and grueling cycling race, beginning with Stage 1 on Saturday, July 2, at 6 a.m. ET on NBCSN, the NBC Sports app and NBC Sports Gold. Coverage continues each night with the Tour Primetime show, featuring a look at the day’s most compelling action with new analysis, interviews, and updates. Coverage culminates with the final stage Sunday, July 24, at 10 a.m. ET.

In addition to live coverage of the Tour de France, NBC Sports Gold will offer viewers the ability to pause, rewind and slow-mo the video. While streaming live coverage, viewers will also have access to a live GPS tracking map to follow the riders’ progress and biometric information, an enhanced interactive map for each stage, full stage video replay, highlights, and short‐form video clips. Subscribers can also personalize their Tour de France experience by choosing their favorite riders and teams to track throughout the Tour.
