Share the Sign-On Letter to Urge Congress to Pass the NOPAIN Act
On December 5, the Voices for Non-Opioid Choices Coalition wrote a sign-on letter urging congressional leadership to include the Non-Opioids Prevent Addiction in the Nation Act ( NOPAIN Act) in end-of-year legislation. This legislation (S. 586/H.R. 3259) would expand access to safe, non-opioid pain management approaches.
This letter was included in the December 6 edition of Politico Pulse , a newsletter widely read by congressional staff and healthcare influencers in Washington, DC.
The letter states, “We lost approximately 81,000 Americans from an opioid-related overdose in 2021 alone. This represents a 70 percent increase in the number of American lives lost due to opioids since 2019. … Research shows that approximately 4 million Americans initiate a long-term opioid use habit after being exposed to opioids to manage postsurgical pain. … 90 percent of these patients are prescribed opioids … to manage their pain. So, … the majority of heroin users report initiating opioid misuse through prescription opioid pills.”
Already signed by more than 50 organizations, including ASCA, the letter continues, “The NOPAIN Act would remove current reimbursement barriers that limit patient and provider access to non-opioid pain management approaches, increasing access to and use of medically appropriate, safe, and effective non-opioid approaches to pain management for five years.”
ASCA encourages you to spread the word and sign the petition to show your support for the NOPAIN Act .
