AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Democratic Party has submitted a letter of intent to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) indicating that Texas will apply to be considered for the pre-window period of the 2024 presidential nominating process. The pre-window will include the first five states to hold primary contests.

The letter of intent initiates the process for Texas. Democratic leaders in Texas will work on the application to be submitted to the Democratic National Committee Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC). The full application is due in early June 2022.

Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Texas represents America in all the ways that make our nation great and is the right choice to lead in the process of choosing our next President.

“It is going to be critical in the 2024 election to choose states that best reflect the broad diversity of our country. Texas, with its thriving and growing diversity of ethnicity and industry, offers the competitiveness and inclusiveness that will be critical to inspiring voters across our country.

“The Lone Star State is home to the largest Black population in the country, the second-largest Latino population and the third-largest Asian American population. Nearly 70% of Texas children and teenagers are people of color, making Texas the future of America.

“Candidates that emerge from an early Texas primary will be better prepared to face a diverse electorate and be victorious in 2024!”
