Battelle Wins NSF Funding to Track Viruses in Wastewater
COLUMBUS, Ohio (June 17, 2020)—A Battelle team of researchers will test wastewater in Toledo for the presence of the virus that causes COVID-19 as well as other viral pathogens that will help pinpoint specific neighborhoods that are hotspots for viral outbreaks.

St. Louis County Official Appointed to EPA Childrens Health Protection Advisory Committee
A St. Louis County Department of Health (DOH) manager has been appointed by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler as one of 28 members of the Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee (CHPAC). Joyce Heard, DOH environmental protection manager, was selected by EPA from a pool of more than 60 highly-qualified candidates.

Toledo couple indicted for fraudulent medical care scheme
A federal grand jury in Toledo, Ohio returned a four-count indictment today charging Sherry-Ann Jenkins, age 55, and Dr. Oliver H. Jenkins, age 57, both formerly of Ottawa Hills, Ohio, on one count each of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, and health care fraud in connection with their development and operation of the Toledo Clinic Cognitive Center from approximately 2013 through 2016.

Toledo duo sentenced for witness tampering in trial of former pastor
Alisa Haynes, age 45, and Alexis Fortune, age 26, of Toledo, were sentenced today after pleading guilty to one count each of witness tampering days before the trial of former Toledo pastor and convicted felon, Anthony Haynes . Alisa Haynes was sentenced to 24 months in prison, and Alexis Fortune was sentenced to 48 months in prison. Alisa Haynes is the wife of Anthony Haynes, and Alexis Fortune is his step-daughter.
