About Policy Matters Ohio

Policy Matters Ohio is a non-profit, nonpartisan policy research organization founded in January 2000 to broaden the debate about economic policy in Ohio. Our mission is to create a more prosperous, equitable, sustainable and inclusive Ohio, through research, media work and policy advocacy. Ohio faces enormous challenges from the global recession, three decades of deindustrialization, rising inequality, and global warming. We also see tremendous opportunity to reinvest in Ohio’s workers, children, cities and infrastructure, to forge an economy that works better for all. In 2008, the Nation magazine named Policy Matters the most valuable state or regional organization in the country. Director Amy Hanauer was named a policy driver by Inside Business Magazine, and a 2011 PolitiFact in The Cleveland Plain Dealer rated her statements at a speech to be “true,” the highest rating. The organization was honored for innovation and excellence by the Mandel Center for Non-Profit Organizations in 2010 and the Ohio Association of Non-Profit Organizations in 2011. Policy Matters is funded with generous support from the Ford, Joyce, Cleveland, Gund, Sisters of Charity, Kellogg, Saint Luke’s, Raymond John Wean, Annie E. Casey and Public Welfare Foundations. We also receive funding for projects from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Economic Policy Institute, Demos, the BlueGreen Alliance, Case Western Reserve University, Oberlin College, the Ohio Environmental Council, the Corporation for Enterprise Development, Neighborhood Progress Inc., the Ohio Benefit Bank, Cuyahoga and Franklin counties’ EITC coalitions, the Pepsi Challenge, and the National Employment Law Project. We are grateful for individual contributions, and we are a proud member of Greater Cleveland Community Shares.
