The additional hearing and comment period is in response to the July 11 agreement between the Province of Ontario and Hydro One’s executive management that resulted, among other provisions, in the resignation and full replacement of Hydro One’s board of directors and retirement of the utility’s chief executive officer.

The commission’s deadline for a decision on the proposed merger is Dec. 14.

Hydro One is Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution provider with more than 1.3 million customers.

Spokane-based Avista serves more than 240,000 electric and nearly 153,000 natural gas customers in eastern Washington.
