Chicago, IL, January 12, 2011 (PressReleasePoint) -- your•bot™ and developer James Prete announces the inclusion of the three additional Tournament scoring games with the release 1.2.5 of tour•bot™ golf tournament scoring app for the Apple® iPhone3G®, iPhone3GS®, iPhone4®. iPod Touch® 2-4 and all iPad® devices (iOS® 3.0 or higher).
Blind Nine, Quota, and two versions of the Callaway Scoring System have been added to the tour•bot scoring system capability.
Blind Nine, sometimes called Blind Hole, is a tournament in which only 9 of the 18 holes count in the player's final score. The catch is that the player doesn't know which 9 holes count until after the round is completed. The tournament organizers usually wait until all foursomes have teed off before randomly selecting the 9 holes whose scores will be used. Blind Nine using tour•bot is played with full handicaps.
Quota is a game where tournament players start with positive points with the goal is to reach 36 total points (or 39 - the specifics can vary depending on who is running the tournament). In Quota, each golfer starts with points that match their course handicap. If the course handicap is 3, the player starts with three points. If the handicap is 26, the golfer starts with 26 points. This starting point total is the quota. So the goal is to get from their starting quota to 36 (or 39) by adding points for each hole in the following way:
Bogeys - 1 point
Pars - 2 points
Birdies - 4 points
Eagles - 8 points
These scores are based upon gross strokes, not net; for example, a gross bogey is worth 1 point. The winner of a Quota Tournament is the golfer who exceeds the target score (36 or 39) by the greatest amount. If nobody hits or exceeds the target, the winner is the player coming closest.
The Callaway Scoring System is a kind of 1-day handicapping system that can be used in events where most of the golfers do not have real handicap indexes. For example, at a company outing, most of the golfers may not carry official handicap indexes. How can they all - with widely different playing abilities - compete fairly at stroke play?
The Callaway System - while based on a certain degree on luck - allows a "handicap allowance" to be determined and then applied to each golfer's score. tour•bot automates the Callaway System for you making these tournaments a snap to score. All players tee off and play stroke play, scoring in the normal fashion. tour•bot will automatically keep track of the important rule of Callaway, double par is the maximum score on any given hole (i.e., on a par 4, 8 is the maximum score). You don't have to worry about that with tour•bot, just score the total gross strokes and tour•bot will take care of everything. Following the round, gross scores are tallied. Based on each player's gross score (using the double par maximum), tour•bot zeros out a prescribed number of worst holes from the player's scorecard, then applies a second adjustment that may add or subtract additional strokes.
The Callaway scoring system allows players without a handicap established, to complete at a tournament and have a reasonable chance of winning. In addition to the standard Callaway stroke adjustment, tour•bot also includes the Dr. Scheid modified stroke adjustment system that further improves the chances of winning for high-stroke players.
